Monday Printing Dilemmas

Today started with some printing issues that was getting a little frustrating. What happened was, we need to print quite a number of large prints f0r PE for an upcoming event. Well, when I loaded a new roll of vinyl-backed adhesive for our HP 5500 large format printer to start printing again, which was the same material I just used and finished on the last roll, the ink was laying on way too thick and spreading more than usual! Because it was the exact same material I just used and also the same printing profile, I was really confused. We've been getting alot of our banner and vinyl material from Hexis lately and find them to be pretty consistent. I did some printing tests to try to solve the problem, from using different profiles to lessen the ink to changing the profile in the printer. I was going to just take down the ink levels on one test when the owner suggested using the other roll we had to see if it might even be the material. Sounded good to me. So I loaded the new roll, printed it, and voila! We found the culprit! It ended up being bad coating on the roll that was messing the print up. When I called Hexis they confirmed the problem, saying it does happen here and there. We were fortunate enough to get a replacement and trade in the bad roll for a new one.

Need to go for now...more to come...=)
